Japanese Knot Weed Incineration

Part of the Greenfield platform two extension required the removal of a stand of Japanese knot weed (JKW). To save the knot weed plant material and contaminated soil going to landfill, BGCL engaged the services of Henderson and Taylor (H&T) to incinerate the knot weed and screen the soil to remove the JKW rhizomes.

The cost of JKW plant material and soil removal was priced at £77,000. The cost for H&T incinerate the plant material, screen the soil, incinerate the rhizomes and removal of the soil to a suitable facility as non-hazardous soil and stones was £66,755. Overall, none of the material was sent to landfill and a saving of £10,000 was made.
