Construction work often causes disruptions within the community.

It is vital that constructors identify areas of work that may cause frustration or restrict the daily lives of residents and implement measures to counteract these, taking into consideration any sensitive issues among residents.

Below is an example of how one site developed an innovative solution to minimise the disruption of construction work to local residents:

Following a complaint that statutory roadwork warning signs were restricting a resident access on the pavement, when using her mobility scooter, signs were then mounted on lampposts to free up space on the pavement.

The lamppost signs were approved by the local highway authority.

As well as the obvious benefit of keeping paths and access areas clear, these signs have proved to be less prone to vandalism or theft.
