Minimising Impact on Neighbourhood Parking

Parking is a frequent and major source of public complaint during construction work.

Examples of how sites have overcome a lack of on-site parking and minimised inconvenience to the neighbourhood include:

  • A car park was rented for the duration of a project, from where operatives were brought to site by minibus;
  • An operatives’ car share scheme was promoted and monitored;
  • Due to limited car parking available on site, priority was given to those who participated in the car share scheme;
  • An adjacent piece of waste land was cleared and used as a car park before being handed back as a landscaped area;
  • Additional ‘Residents Only’ parking signs were provided for local homeowners;
  • Polite notices were left on vehicle windscreens, providing contact details.
