Promoting Women in Construction

The project team wanted to actively promote more career opportunities within the construction industry to women. To do this they undertook a series of presentations on construction careers within ‘Salon Services’ in Dover where the site is situated.

By partnering with them, they were given access to a female dominated environment that allowed them to explain the roles women can play and give a better understanding as to what the construction industry entails.

After the presentation a series of Q&A sessions took place with the site team and the ‘women in construction champion’ on site. The ‘women in construction champion’ who is female, enabled them to connect with the females within ‘Salon Services’ more as it gave them a females point of view on what it is like working in the construction industry.

From this they were able to recruit a traffic marshal who is now a vital part of the team and ‘Salon Services’ are now displaying the project’s monthly newsletter, as well as the CCS ‘Spotlight on… women in construction’ posters and flyers.

The sites contact details are also displayed should they wish for more information, or career opportunities. Partnering with this company has enabled them to reach a broader demographic that they may not have been able to within their community and allowed them to set up events with them in the future.
