Tea and Coffee for Stranded Drivers

This project was situated in Dover, where lorry drivers were stranded over Christmas when the boarders were shut. Every street was full of drivers wanting to get home and some were stuck for four days. The street in front of these site was one of those affected, with many not moving from that road at all.

The project team got together and put on free tea, coffee and food for all those that wanted it. This gave many of them much needed relief from the confines of their cab especially on Christmas Eve when they should have been celebrating with their families. Many of them merely wanted to have a chat with someone, as they had been stuck for days in a foreign country without any contact. They were also gave them use of our welfare facilities including the shower if they wished.

All social distancing measures were followed, masks worn and areas were sanitised as normal if drivers came on to site. This operation was very successful and we hope those stranded took something from it when they left.
