Use of BIM to Demonstrate Safe Demolition of Thames Water Infrastructure

The contractor developed a 4D animation to demonstrate sequencing and safety considerations for the demolition of a live Thames Water Trunk Sewer, whilst maintaining service and eliminating access requirements into the hazardous flows.

By combining the 3D design model and the programme sequence, the methodology is clearly set out.

The animation was presented to Thames Water personnel, providing reassurance that safety, quality and protection of the asset would be achieved and led to quicker approval of permits to enter and work.

The animation was also used to brief the personnel carrying out the work, which ensured clarity of the methodology and contributed to the demolition being undertaken without incident or injury.
