Virtual Training: Slips, Trips and Falls

On The Broadway project for Multiplex, we invited virtual reality experiences to the project to demonstrate and loan to us the virtual reality headset for operatives to undertake training for slips, trips and falls. The slip, trips and falls training module challenged our operatives to identify safety hazards in a simulated environment and at the end of the assessment, the learners discuss their responses with the multiplex safety managers who then helped them to understand anything they had missed or answer any questions they had.

The training was a great way to reach out to operatives who have English as a second language as they only had to concentrate on the risks in front of them and how they could potentially cause harm to a person if missed or ignored in a real life situation. The training also helped the operatives focus on how they can stop and prevent slips, trips and falls by incorporating the training within their own job roles in the construction site.

The training was easy to follow as per operatives feedback and we will continue to incorporate virtual reality training going forward as a permanent training module for our project. The virtual reality headset gave a more realistic view on hazard spotting and eliminated the verbal message not being delivered or understood correctly due to language barriers.
