Waste Water Heater

The site team have installed a system in their welfare facilities which uses reclaimed heat, normally lost via our urinal and basin waste pipes, and uses it to increase the incoming temperature of the cold water supply feeding the water heater for our hand basins.

The innovative idea behind this system is utilising human by-product to save energy consumption and cost.

The system uses horizontal pipework with multiple layered cores. The pipe gathers the heat from the passing liquid via a copper core, insulation on the core ensures this heat is retained. The retained heat is then passed through to the incoming cold water which is then piped into the water heater.

This results in less energy being required to heat water for the basin. The site team have recorded a 32% drop in electricity used for heating water and a running cost saving of 60p per day.
