At our advisory meeting with the Scheme Monitor, we were told about highlighting and promoting our supply chain and promoting the different elements involved at a construction site. When we started on site we also got involved with a local charity – the Lookahead drop in centre for vulnerable people 200 yards from the site.

We came up with an idea of combining the two initiatives, whereby the subcontractors would pay a monthly sum that would allow for money to be raised initially to be passed on to the charity. In return we had signage made to promote the subcontractors with whom we are working on the project which was clearly shown on the scaffold hoarding around the site entrance.

We were surprised by how many subcontractors agreed, and all the money raised will go to Lookahead. After meeting and in discussions with them it was clear the charity had two areas that required building work. We have taken charge of getting these works done for the centre using the money raised and with assistance from our supply chain, a room is to be refurbished and a back yard area turned into an amenable planted area.
