The Scheme’s Best Practice Hub shares examples of best practice and innovation within the construction industry. There are a number of examples addressing the issue of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Here are a few examples of best practice:

- A contractor has created a dedicated private nursing room for pregnant women and mothers to express milk in private, with a range of appropriate facilities as a minimum standard.
- This contractor implemented a Women’s Network to enable locally recruited women to discuss key issues such as health, gender equality.
- This contractor has worked collaboratively with a college and university to pilot a programme which aims to upskill diverse members of their workforce who are foreign and often struggle with the English language. The voluntary course also provides the participants with additional qualifications.
- The project team at this contractor participated in raising awareness of Pride Month through flying the rainbow flag on site to show they are supportive and inclusive of those celebrating Pride Month.
- This contractor created Fairness, Inclusion and Respect (FIR) Ambassadors to promote a culture of Fairness, Inclusion and Respect within the organisation in which they work.
- One contractor in considering cultural issues, has provided an adapted toilet cubicle and WC pan which may be used by certain cultures where squatting is the norm rather than sitting.
