3D Printed Decoy Birds used to Attract New Species to Artificial Nesting Structure

Kittiwake are small gulls with declining populations in the UK. The species is listed as vulnerable, at risk of extinction and on the UK’s Red List for Birds of Conservation Concern.

To help support the local colonies and encourage new chicks to the population, this contractor has used 3D printed decoy Kittiwakes to attract new Kittiwakes into the artificial nesting structure.

They have combined using bird decoys with modern 3D printing methods using recycled plastics, providing detailed precision decoys.

These decoys will be painted by the local community and placed into the artificial nesting structure by the community, to encourage nearby Kittiwakes to take up residence and increase colony numbers.
