Ballot Bin Ashtray

At South Quay Plaza, we found that despite having two smoking areas within the site boundary, due to close proximity to coffee shops and supermarkets, a lot of our operatives were smoking outside the site perimeter. This does not create a positive first impression, which we are all very passionate about.

In order to tackle this, we have ordered Ballot Bin ashtrays and located them in our smoking areas to encourage smokers to use them instead of smoking on the streets.

The Ballot Bin displays a question and two answers. Smokers vote by putting their cigarette butt in the slots underneath their preferred answer. The litter stacks up behind the clear glass front in two columns, showing which answer is more popular.

As well as reducing smoking outside the site boundary, the Ballot Bin ashtrays have also proved a number of other benefits, targeting numerous Code of Considerate Practice categories.

It gauges operatives views on numerous topics and encourages communication between management and operatives, and encourages operatives to think and drive improvements through questions.
