Campaign to Safeguard the Workforce

Due to the nature of the construction industry, operatives face a number of hazards within their working environment.

It is essential that appropriate risk assessments and procedures are implemented and effectively communicated to the workforce to mitigate these risks.

Below is an example of how sites can help safeguard the wellbeing of their workforce:

  • A ‘Beat the Drop’ campaign was created, as the incidents of dropping objects was assessed as high risk;
  • With the help of a specialist safety company the force/impact of various tools falling were then calculated and finally the campaign was developed into safe ways of storing and tethering tools;
  • The arch entrance to the work area highlighted the ‘Beat the Drop’ lessons with actual tools hanging above everyone’s head as they go to work, provoking a real awareness of lethal falling objects.
