Stop the Drop

As part of our continual development on sites, PM Group in conjunction with the on-site mechanical sub-contractor MSL, implemented a “Stop the Drop” campaign.

The campaign highlighted the importance of housekeeping, the line of fire and hazard awareness. The campaign also included a demonstration of the impact a dropped object can have. Using watermelons to reflect the vulnerability of a person’s head, various objects were dropped from height and the impact witnessed by more then 200 people at the stand down.

In advance of the demonstration the watermelons were handed around to all participants so they could feel it and compare it to a human head. The outcome of the demonstration seen an immediate improvement on the materials control at height whilst on site.

This demonstration is part of a behavioural safety programme, in this case focusing on making our toolbox talks more interactive and approaching safety issues as a result this promotes a chronic unease mindset within our work force. This is essential in the development of a generative safety culture.
