New and exciting ways should be sought to engage local children with the industry and to encourage site safety.

Below is an example of how a site engaged children and raised awareness:

  • The company mascot ‘Buxton Bear’ featured widely in the company PR materials;
  • The site team developed a site-specific ‘Children’s Site Safety Induction Booklet’ for use on site during children’s site visits;
  • The booklet is an A5 illustrated ‘Site Rule’ publication with children’s activities, puzzles and a competition based on the company mascot ‘Buxton Bear’;
  • The site team further developed this innovation to provide a mature version for operatives’ use on site to retain operative’s interest about safety through them engaging with the challenging puzzles.
