Field View App

Morgan Sindall have started using a Viewpoint programme called Field View at the A421 Dualling Project. This site is the first in the Highways to division to use it and so it is the first of its kind. Field View is mainly used as an app on tablets and phones to allow those on site to immediately access drawings and information. It is also being used to digitise forms and paperwork to be more environmentally friendly and for better document sharing and control.

We are currently using Field View to carry out plant pre-delivery checks, site diaries, road closure safety inspections, environmental audits, HSE reports, and more. A unique aspect of this system is that we can set it up so that once a form is completed, it is sent to and saved in the relevant folder in the Viewpoint for Projects document management system for the A421 Dualling project.

We are also starting to use Field View as a snagging tool, where the tablets can be taken on site and snags or tasks can be added to the drawing at the relevant location. The tablet can also log the GPS location of the snag as well, so future users can find it using either the drawing or with the GPS locator. This makes our snagging system more accurate and available for all users to view.

The app also allows photos to be taken and directly added to forms and snags, where the photos have time and date stamps as well as coordinates. This is very useful for works as they can prove exactly when a photo was taken, so if an issue or damaged plant etc. arises, there can be no doubt of time and location later on.
