The BAM team constructing the new Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital have installed hand wash basins at the entrance to the site compound. The hot and cold water supply is accessed by lever taps that can be turned on using elbows. Staff can wash their hands before entering the shared site accommodation helping to limit the chances of transmitting infection.

In addition, teams around the UK are holding coronavirus toolbox talks briefing the workforce on control measures we are taking to help reduce the spread of the virus, in accordance with the government guidelines.

We are increasing the welfare cleaning staff, creating rotas for staggering work breaks, distancing tables in welfare facilities to 2m, adding additional outdoor welfare seating and removing the use of the biometric scanners at site entrances.
