Hydro-Seed Planting
Working techniques can always be improved, which can reduce the impact on resources whilst still carrying out the same task to the same standard, if not higher.
Minimising the use of environmental resources such as the natural water supply can reduce the output costs for the site.
Sites can also look to leave behind a lasting legacy and re-build the natural environment if necessary.
Below is an example of how a site used more sustainable working methods:
- On the grassed areas to the side of the site’s taxiways, hydro-seeding was used instead of traditional net blasting;
- This new technique used a liquid mulch-seed concentration planting technique, that can be sprayed from a lorry or another vehicle;
- This provides better moisture retention, higher accuracy, quicker seeding and reduced water usage;
- An ever-lasting layer of grass is then created;
- It also eliminates the issue of birds eating the seeds.
