Increasing the Standards of the Working Environment

The Greenwich Peninsula Upper Riverside welfare facilities have been designed to improve the standards and working environment on construction sites.

Mace directors analysed a number of studies which show a correlation between the influence of working environment and staff productivity.

This included examples from Google and Microsoft offices.

This allowed the Mace team to identify measures that could be implemented on site to create an enjoyable and calming space for our staff. The team also wanted to change the regimental environment which is often associated with the construction industry.

The appearance of the site offices was given specific consideration including the use of colour, light and space for group and individual work.

Ahead of the construction of the cabins, a survey was issued to the existing workforce to investigate the features that will improve the standards of the working environment and their wellbeing.

Their responses were accumulated and shared with the managing team and resulted in the following features:

  • A café for the operatives in addition to the canteen
  • Phone booths for private conversation
  • A outdoor garden for lunch
  • Standing desks
  • Games room with a pool table
  • Lego Wall
