Man-Up Key Manhole Cover Lifting Tool

This contractor used the man-up key for use on site where service investigation required lifting of many chamber lids, many of which were well stuck due to having not being opened in years. Some had also been grouted shut or surfacing may have overlapped the lid.

The patented slide-hammer action means a lift by the user effectively provides an ‘impact’ force similar to hitting the lid from below with a hammer, but without this instantaneous force needing to be generated by the person lifting, reducing the risk of back injuries. The tool proved very popular with the workforce and as a result has been used throughout the scheme and will likely be used throughout the business on other roadworks schemes, as well as a number of subcontractors who have been impressed with their effectiveness.

Aside from the safety improvements, they are also time and cost savers in terms of opening chambers faster, avoiding damage that requires replacement, and avoids the need for more expensive equipment such as hydraulic openers. A variety of ‘tip sets’ are available that will allow opening of almost any type of chamber.
