Minimising Disruption to the Public through Parking

Efforts should be made to understand and identify neighbours with special needs or requirements, who may need additional, careful consideration from the site.

This will help to identify potential issues before they occur and show sensitivity towards local residents.

Here are examples of how a site situated within a densely populated area, has shown consideration to the community:

  • Bay suspensions were required for the site to gain access to the property for waste away and deliveries which occurred daily and meant bays had to be suspended for a full week despite the site only being in operation Monday to Friday, this caused nuisance to neighbours as they were unable to park all day for the sake of what could be a single 15-minute site activity;
  • To counter this, the site suggested that the client purchase an old Land Rover along with a resident’s permit for the vehicle;
  • The vehicle was left outside the property at all times, giving access to the full frontage by moving the vehicle at the convenience of the site and parking elsewhere on the street for waste-away via wait-and-load vehicles and for site deliveries;
  • The alternative to this would be a 7-day suspension of two bays outside the property for a significant duration of the project;
  • By adopting this strategy they have saved the client in excess of £20,000 and have reduced the disruption to neighbours by reducing the number of bay suspensions on the street.
