Pedestrian Gantry Tunnels

Pedestrian gantry tunnels are needed along the Charing Cross pavement, which continuously carries a large volume of pedestrians.

Fast installation of the gantries limits the extent of temporary disruptions to the safe passage of pedestrians and the team have developed a fast and novel solution with their site cabins supplier (LOR sister company – Select) based on the use of old containers.

The old containers are stripped back to their steel frame, additional strengthening is added, plus steel plate walkways and steel handrails – they are then transported to site for relatively quick installation in one overnight operation.

Whilst adopted primarily for public safety reasons, the solution does also represent good re-use of otherwise redundant materials.
