Providing Adequate Facilities for Smokers

Creating a positive impression of your site is important as you do not get a second chance to create a good first impression on passers-by.

Providing adequate facilities for smokers and also offering help and encouragement on how to quit smoking, can make operatives feel supported and cared for.

Sites have tackled the negative appearance associated with workforce smoking by implementing the following:

  • Two separate smoking shelters were provided within the welfare compound, one to be used by cigarette smokers and the other to be used by ‘e-smokers’;
  • This supported members of the workforce who were trying to give up nicotine and would not welcome breathing in second hand tobacco smoke.
