Safety At Plant People Interface

This contractor has implemented a system that works through a 360-degree multi camera that detects the human form and communicates visually and audibly to the plant operator.

As well as alerts inside the cab, a klaxon sound warns people, all detections are collected (subject to the relevant GDPR compliance) and displayed on a web-based portal for analysis and meetings are held with plant operators and site operatives to understand how improvements can be made.

The behavioural management team have also assisted with the changing of behaviours in the role out and implementation of this system to enable the machine operators to understand why they have to change some processes. The new technology replaces traditional systems by simply identifying humans through their shape, form, and characteristics, delivering audible and visual alerts to the machine operator when a person enters a predetermined restricted, exclusion zone.

This will eliminate previous frustrations where existing measures would detect everything from boulders and structures to machines and vehicles, sending incessant warnings to drivers who often choose to ignore them.
