Site Perimeter Security Measures for Large Scale Events

In November 2021, Glasgow is playing host to the COP26 climate conference, widely regarded as one of the most important climate negotiations of our time.

With the World’s leaders present at the nearby Scottish Event Campus (SEC), over 100,000 activists are thought to be within the city as part of planned marches. Whilst respecting freedom of speech and helping to facilitate such marches by adhering to planned road closures, it has been important for the project team to consider how to maintain a secure perimeter for the safety of site operatives, those attending the marches and the local community.

As part of a wider security strategy, the team have implemented a number of physical measures to prevent unauthorised access to the site. This included roller barriers to the top of the hoarding, closure of site gates between pre-booked deliveries and additional lighting and CCTV (motion-sensitive) cameras.

It is anticipated that by having a comprehensive plan in place, the events can proceed as planned and the messages heard in a safe, controlled manner.
