Stage V 200kVa Gensets

Air quality in London is one of the biggest challenges currently facing the city. Over 9,400 premature deaths have been linked to poor air quality and the long-term exposure can be tied to many different illnesses and diseases. The construction industry is a significant contributor to London’s poor air quality.

Where emergency back-up generators are required, this contractor has gone above and beyond legal compliance to ensure that the best available generators are used – Stage V. The Stage V generators are not readily available within the UK and have only previously been seen at trade shows, and all alterative generators are stage IIIA – the minimum legal limit for use within London. However, this contractor managed to procure the Stage V generators from Italy, and there are 4 in use across the project to support the tunneling operations.

The contractor has received special recognition from the Greater London Authority Non-Road Mobile Machinery auditors, highlighting the work that has gone into bringing these items to site. This is the first Stage V genset of this size (200kVa) that has been registered on a construction site in London, showing commitment to ensuring the wider impact of our works are minimised. The generators will be kept on site for the duration of the tunnelling activities as they are used to provide back-up power to a variety of tunnelling equipment.
