Vision Zero Collaboration

Each year around 4,000 people are killed or seriously injured on London’s roads. People walking, cycling or riding motorcycles make up 80% of deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads.

In July 2018, the Mayor of London, Transport for London (TfL) and the Metropolitan Police launched a bold ‘Vision Zero Action Plan’ to end the toll of deaths and serious injuries on London’s streets. The plan includes the introduction of lower speed limits on TfL’s road network, the transformation of dangerous junctions, and joint work between TfL and the police to enhance enforcement activity. It also features a new focus on the most dangerous drivers, and a comprehensive bus safety programme including speed-limiting technology and new training for all bus drivers amongst other measures.

TfL has marked the first year anniversary of its Vision Zero commitment, to raise awareness of the devastation caused by road trauma launching a new campaign, ‘Know My Name’, which shares the stories of five victims of road trauma to communicate the impact it has on people’s lives and our shared conviction that even one death or serious injury is one too many.

To assist with the promotion of the new campaign TfL’s Network Management team collaborated with McGee and Native Land. This involved installing a large visual image on the monarflex surrounding the site during demolition to represent a pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist. The image concept is a reminder to ‘look out for these road users’.
