Bluetooth Sensors to Monitor Traffic
Traffic alterations as a consequence of works can pose a safety risk when drivers are faced with disruption to their routines and sites should manage traffic issues appropriately.
See the examples below for how one site addressed this:
- The local council was concerned with traffic flow passing the works, which was controlled by temporary traffic lights.
- The site team sourced bluetooth sensors which can pick up and identify signals from mobile phones.
- Sensors were attached to lighting columns each end of the control area and the signals from mobile phones within waiting vehicles were used to track waiting times.
- This data fed to a tablet which provided a single operative with waiting times to enable them to control the lights, providing a safe solution equalising traffic flow in the opposing directions.
