Avoiding Disruption to Public Transport
The Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme (LPTIP) on the Headrow project saw the start of the eastbound buses diverted off of the Headrow in Leeds city centre. Weeks of planning public awareness events, meetings with Leeds BID, bus operators, delivery partners and the client resulted in a smooth transition from original bus stops to the temporary ones.
A rota was drawn up of people from John Sisk and Son, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Leeds City Council, Leeds BID Ambassadors and Bus Operators to direct people to the new temporary bus stops, and they covered from 7am until 7pm during the week before and week after 1st September. Information for the travelling public was also added on websites, social media, bus shelters, buses, shop windows and in press releases.
Peter Dawson, Project Manager for John Sisk, was on hand for two very early 5am bus operator briefings to update the drivers on the diversion route. Leeds City Council have since reported that the transition to the new bus stops has been relatively seamless and thanked everyone who volunteered to help make it the success it has been.
