On this project they take their impact on the community incredibly seriously. Having a number of residents in such close proximity, part of their social value plan is to regularly share information with them on upcoming ‘noisy and disruptive’ works.

The Sustainability Manager responded to the need to keep them informed on upcoming works by producing a simplified and non construction lingo version of their own programme. However this community version was also only focused on those works which had the real potential to cause disturbance. As a result their ‘community monthly programme’ was born.

In conjunction with the Construction Working Group, they ensure that prior to each month, each of their stakeholders receives a copy via email. In addition, they are also placed on their visual screens and noticeboard around the site and on their bespoke website. Community newsletters are one thing, but the focus with the community monthly programme was to provide them the information they really want to know.

It has helped their image with the community and has also helped to facilitate incoming complaints. It also shows that they are transparent with the activities that are going on and the programme enables them to have honest conversations about the site activities.
