Cast in Fixing Points for Catch Fans

This project is adjacent to a busy road that serves the local community as well as a nursery school and a large shopping centre. With high levels of pedestrian and vehicle traffic within close proximity of the 10 storey concrete frame they are constructing it was decided to use catch fans on the 2 elevations that border the public highway to offer public protection.

Vertemax catch fans were selected for their ease of assembly and installation as well as ease in lifting from floor to floor.

Traditionally these fans are connected to the frame by a post drilled fixing to either the slab top or slab soffit. Drilling these holes for the fixings need to be done by an operative with a precision drill and some form of access if it is a soffit fixing. This operation creates harmful silica dust and issues with Hand Arm Vibration which needs to be monitored. Also drilling a hole into concrete some floors up above a public highway has its own set of risks.

They had a temporary works designer design a cast in fixing solution. This gets fixed to the slab decking before the slab is poured. Once the slab is poured and the decking is struck the cast in fixing is exposed and the catch fan brackets can be connected into the cast in fixing using a T bolt.

This enables them to safely, quickly and cleanly install the catch fans.
