Site Energy Supplied by Battery

A Northvolt battery system has been used to power the site instead of a temporary power supply and/or generators.

The site will have the following power requirement during construction:

  • 2 x tower cranes,
  • 3 x goods hoists
  • 6 x cabins
  • 2 x building of 8 storey and 6 storey requiring temporary electrics including lighting to allow areas.

The local grid could not supply a large enough temporary power supply to accommodate what is needed on site which would have lead to the use of several generators. The system used instead is extremely diverse and can be easily extended should the site power needs increase. The batteries are trickle charged from either the mains supply or a generator if mains connection cannot be achieved.

Currently in the three weeks the batteries have been in operation, they have saved 2425.6L of diesel usage and 733kg of Co2. This figure will grow significantly as the planned machinery goes into operation in the new year. The batteries have also eased demand on the local grid network, reducing the need from 200kVA to 22kVA. The system allows full monitoring of diesel savings and Co2 saving.
