360 Telehandler used for Soil Nailing Works

Installation of the soil nail netting requires heavy rolls of mesh, fixing plates and securing bolts to be moved down the face of the cliff. These heavy materials are usually moved from the crest to the workface by hand, using rope access techniques.

Site conditions on this project allowed for a 360 telehandler to be placed at the crest of the cliff. This telehandler was used to supply the team with material, significantly reducing manual handling and improving productivity. It also removes the need for technical rope access work, simplifying the task which in turn reduces the potential for human error.

A bespoke plan was required and a bespoke lifting beam had to be designed to allow the mesh to be lowered successfully from the telehandler down the face of the cliff. Consideration had to be taken to ensure ground conditions of platform were sufficient whilst also ensuring the position of the telehandler allowed the works to continue under any line open conditions.
