Mitnija UK Ltd have recognised that anyone on a construction site with alcohol in their system may pose a risk to themselves and others, therefore they have put in place a zero-tolerance alcohol policy.

To ensure the effectiveness of this policy, before starting work each morning, everyone must measure their blood alcohol level by breathing into an automated breath alcohol screening system located in the canteen.

The system identifies employees by using facial recognition technology, and gives an almost instantaneous read out. If an employee tests positive, then the system notifies the site manager by text.

Those that test positive are refused access to site. Whilst measuring blood alcohol levels using portable test equipment is not new, what makes this process different is that the equipment is fixed, uses facial recognition, does not require direct supervision or a third party to administer it, and notifies senior managers of any failures immediately.
