Construction, housing and property group Willmott Dixon uses a lot of fuel in the course of its business.
Newer plant, hybrid generators, low emission company cars and energy efficient cabins are some of the ways in which Willmott Dixon is working towards its target of halving emissions intensity by 2020 (compared with 2010).
Since 2012, the company has offset its unavoidable carbon emissions by investing in projects overseas which reduce global emissions by an equivalent amount.
The projects it chooses are independently validated and verified, with additional social or health benefits, in line with the aims of The Willmott Dixon Foundation.
To offset its 2015 emissions the company has invested in a reforestation project in Kenya, a renewable biomass fuel switch project in Brazil and a cleaner cookstoves project in Uganda.
Willmott Dixon invests in carbon offset projects because it is the responsible thing to do. But it also does it because, as a sector leader in low-energy building construction, it is important that the business is seen to be showing leadership in this area.
Willmott Dixon is one of the only companies in its sector to hold the Carbon Trust Standard. As a pathfinder and standard bearer for the Carbon Trust’s new Supply Chain Standard, it is now working with its suppliers to reduce their carbon footprint.
Willmott Dixon also publishes an annual PAS2060 statement and its Carbon and Energy Management Plan is published on its website.
