Bespoke Plasterboard Clamp Trolley

These custom made bespoke trolleys were designed in a collaboration between Goodman’s Fields management, our dry lining contractor, BDL, and their parent company, Carey. They are standard trolleys that are modified to incorporate adjustable clamping arms to keep various sized boards in place whilst being transported around sight.

We decided to carry out this modification as we found that, using the standard trolleys, the amount of damaged boards through accidental slippage and toppling was causing a lot of excess waste as well as creating a safety concern for operatives. We had had a few incidents and near misses where boards had fallen off of the trolleys, and this prompted us to think of a better way to transport these materials. These incidents and near misses had led directly to additional costs, higher risk, more waste and lower productivity on site.

Advantages of the new system include:

  • Reduces damage to boards.
  • Reduces the risk of boards falling over or slipping off on uneven surfaces.
  • Manual handling has been greatly reduced by the fact that operatives do not have to worry about holding the boards in place whilst pushing the trolleys.
  • Safer for operatives to use on a daily basis, vastly reducing the risk inherent in transporting loose boards on site.
