Carbon Footprint

During our discussions about the project, we decided to focus on our impact on the environment at the Ardmore Hill site in Armagh. The site is a small social housing scheme located in a rural community in Armagh.

We initially put plans in place to minimise the carbon footprint on the site through a car sharing programme, and using local suppliers where possible to supply the site with the required building materials. In addition, we hired local labour from the surrounding area.

Then, with the agreement of the client, we began the planting of 18 trees on site and after searching online, we found we could buy carbon credits to offset our carbon footprint on site by buying from the Carbon Trust: we bought a tonne of carbon credits in addition to the trees we are planting on site.

The total carbon footprint saved between tree planting and carbon offsetting is 19 tonnes of carbon. We also publish our achievements through site posters and flyers to local residents in the area.
