Cold Weather Shelter Outreach Programme

The 80 Charlotte Street Project Team have collaborated with a new community group. The American International Church located on the boundary of the project on Tottenham Court Road hosted the Wednesday evening shelter for the C4WS’s cold weather shelter. As part of this commitment, one night per week the church hosts up to 20 guests overnight who are currently homeless and engaged with C4WS where they are looking for a permanent home and employment.

There are seven churches in Camden who take turns each night of the week to host the guests. In order to deliver this programme, the church requires support from the community, and this year Multiplex were delighted to engage and collaborate on such a worthwhile cause. During this 12 week programme, Multiplex supplied the food required and volunteered on six of the breakfast shifts. On each shift, the Multiplex staff arrived at the church for 7am, cooked, served, interacted with guests and cleaned the church.

The programme has been an excellent experience for all involved and has created a greater sense of belonging and community for those on the project. Following this engagement Multiplex now regularly visit the church in order to collaborate on community needs, so far being included on on appreciation dinner and Community networking event. Both The Soup Kitchen, The American International Church, C4WS and Multiplex are in regular contact in order to arrange future programmes and to explore how we can all best impact the local community in the future.
