Collaboration with Police Bait and Trace System to Tackle Organised Crime Network

The project is in a high-crime area, posing challenges for the local community. As a major construction site, it attracted criminal attention and became a target for theft, impacting subcontractors, especially SME’s.

In response, the team partnered with Sunbelt Rentals and the Met Police to trial a solution. A total station was fitted with two GPS trackers, one visible and one hidden with long battery life. A bait unit was placed in a vulnerable spot.

When stolen, the visible tracker was removed, but the hidden one continued transmitting, enabling police to track the equipment, identify suspects, and disrupt a wider organised crime network that has increasingly been disrupting the construction industry in the UK.

This solution, rather than simply improving security or limiting impact, addresses the root cause of the issue. By supporting the police in tackling organised crime, the initiative not only improved safety for the workforce but also contributes to a safer environment for the wider industry and local community.
