Food Surplus Social Enterprise

We use a Social Enterprise called ‘Day Old’ to provide catering for our team events, lunches and hospitality. Day Old is a food surplus Social Enterprise which tackles food waste and food poverty.

These goods are collected from artisan bakeries the day before, preventing them from going to waste and ending up in landfill. 600,000 tonnes of avoidable waste happens in the bakery sector alone and a third of all food produced goes to waste.

In using Day Old on Stratford Waterfront, we address the following areas:

  • Environment – We ensure that food that would have otherwise gone to waste and ended up in landfill is used up. We are supporting the sustainability mission against food waste.
  • Community – Day Old is a Social Enterprise which also supports fighting food poverty. An order from Day Old not only feeds our Stratford Waterfront team, but also sponsors meals for disadvantaged school children in need so they can learn and thrive in school.
