EV Pump and Agitator for CFA Piling

This contractor implemented the world’s first fully electric drilling ancillary support and concrete supply setup to the piling rig. This groundbreaking system combined the use of all renewable mains electricity powered air compressor to assist boring, and mains electrically powered concrete agitator and pump, eliminating three diesel engines from the standard process and significantly reducing fuel consumption to provide concrete to the rig.

Combined with the use of electric concrete wagons on occasion and very low carbon concrete the carbon footprint associated with building CFA piles was significantly reduced. The use of driver telematics to monitor idling time and use of HVO fuel 0.314kgCO2/ltr also provided further savings over traditional diesel 2.660kgCO/ltr.

As part of a wider general transition to electric power all compressors, polymer pumps and jet washers were electrically powered, eliminating the need for diesel generators, further reducing site exhaust emissions and improving site air quality, to achieve Mayor of London’s Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) zero emission 2040 standard for all Greater London construction sites. Not only did this new method achieve an environmental performance improvement. It just as importantly improved safety and occupational health for the piling operatives with the ability to provide a quieter, cleaner and safer working environment.
