As part of delivering our corporate responsibility targets relating to community engagement on this project, we have partnered with a company called Mad Science to deliver an informative series of sustainability workshops to a local school. Mad Science’s Sustainability Lab workshop programme is much easier to teach, more engaging and is much less stressful than a mass field trip to a museum to discuss the ever-important topic of sustainability which is missing from the current curriculum!
The Lab started with an assembly, discussing how our climate is changing – the world is warming up and we can only slow it down by paving the road to renewable energy. The following workshops then offered more hands-on activities, which were personal and specific to the children’s understanding and current curriculum.
Together with Mad Science, we were able to incorporate corporate information including construction specific information into the programme, including reducing single-use plastic waste and using renewable energy to power activities. Once the children completed the ‘Sustainability Lab’ experience, they were provided with additional lesson plans to continue their learning.
We also donated some banners, PPE, branded ‘Give Me Tap’ water bottles and other merchandise to support the learning outcomes and deliver industry leaders’ messages to where it matters the most: the next generation. Feedback from the school has suggested that we have created a lasting impression and inspired some of the industry’s potential future workforce.
