Minimising the Waste of Tarmac

Waste should be monitored and reused or recycled wherever possible.

Innovative measures to minimise waste should be sought and implemented.

Below is an example of how a site minimised waste by re-using tarmac:

  • Tarmac which is stripped out to allow pits and trenches to be dug in the road was reused and could be used in any part of the building, civils and utilities industries;
  • The tarmac was even used to fill potholes;
  • As a result of the site adopting this method, it demonstrated the benefits to the local council who were interested in using re-used tarmac for their road and footpath requirements.

Wider use of this initiative would significantly contribute to improving the image of the construction industry.
