Offsite Bridge Assembly

At the design stage, the bridge was designed to be built off site in six sections with separate transport for each section. This would then be assembled and painted on site on a series of temporary work (piled structure for support).

With early involvement with the fabricator they looked at several options including the above and decided that they would investigate the option of full assembly offsite.

This allowed the bridge to be fabricated in a controlled environment and reduce quality concerns as well as reduce the transport to 1 sea crossing rather than the planed 6 as well as eliminating the need for temporary structures within the river and therefore still allow leisure traffic etc to use the river during construction.

This reduced the carbon footprint of the works, with the estimated fuel for the tug boat alone being 50,000l for each leg of transport saving.
