Plastic Packaging Prize Draw

Morgan Sindall are dedicated to reducing their plastic waste, one area they have identified as a target is a reduction on the amount of plastic delivered to site as packaging.

The process involves monitoring the deliveries to site and each delivery which contains zero plastic waste results in an entry into the site competition. The winning supply chain member is then selected in a draw at the end of the project. The winning prize is a night out in the area local to site, including a hotel stay, theatre vouchers and a food and drinks voucher.

This allows the draw to not only promote minimised plastic waste, but also to provide advertisement for local businesses.

It’s innovative as it’s a versatile solution to a huge problem. Any site could adopt the process, offering larger or smaller prizes depending on the value of the project.

Benefit so far, the level of deliveries including plastic packaging is reduced and cardboard packaging increased. Overall, the level of packaging waste is decreased. Some sub-contractors take delivery of goods in their own premises and de-pack the products there, ready for plastic-free delivery to site. Others initiate a dialogue with their suppliers to ensure no plastic is used.
