Reducing the Use of Single Use Plastics

The project team have been the proud sponsor of the Urban Village Fete in North Greenwich since 2017. This fete draws on local suppliers, designers and performers, and provides a forum for top local talent for a community day full of stalls, music, DJs, dance, art and design workshops and food trucks with an international flavour.

This year, in addition to sponsoring the event, Mace provided 40,000 recyclable cups in order to reduce single-use plastics.

During the event, attendees were asked to provide a £1 deposit at the bars for using the plastic cups. In order to raise awareness of the issue, signs were installed around the event and printed on cups. The slogan read: “Re-usable cups brought to you by Mace as part of the #MaceTimeToAct plastic waste reduction campaign.”

This is our way of leaving a positive legacy over a number of years via our events, as the cups can be held and interacted with by over 80,000 people a year and of course be an excellent symbol of sustainability. Over the course of five years, we would have supported the reduction of 400,000 plastic cups.
