Site Breach and Theft Deterrent

Following a series of five break-ins on this project which resulted in significant financial loss and project disruption, the contractor implemented the SelectaDNA kit to deter thefts and protect their assets.

The forensic marking system applies a unique DNA code to tools, equipment, and materials, making stolen items traceable back to the site. They also installed highly visible SelectaDNA signage around the perimeter to highlight the presence of this security system. Since introducing this measure, they have had zero break-ins, no vandalism or loss of equipment.

This proactive approach provides both a deterrent effect and traceability in the event of theft, helping to secure the site more effectively than traditional security methods alone.

The use of forensic DNA marking common in retail and high-value sectors is not widely adopted in construction. By applying this system to mark site assets, they are introducing a proven science-backed method of theft deterrence and recovery into a high-risk industry. Construction sites often rely on reactive security measures such as CCTV or manned patrols, but this approach offers a proactive and cost-effective layer of protection.
