In a recent PiperJaffray survey, 28% of teenagers consider Snapchat their preferred social network with Instagram falling just slightly behind. Statistics show that Snapchat has over 100 million daily active users, with more accounts created each day. It made sense to use the app as a marketing tool in the Aldercar Community College Site, an area that has a high population of teenagers.

The main function of Snapchat is so that users can take photos and videos and send them to their friends completely free. After 10 seconds these photos and videos are gone, never to be seen again. Over the years as Snapchat has gotten more and more popular new features have been added to the app, one of which is the Geo-filter where a user can design and use an overlay on their photo depending on their current location.

In an attempt to involve the wider public and audience to the construction progress, Henry Brothers have developed a Geo-filter on Snapchat for the site. This allowed users to use the ‘Aldercar Geo-filter’ when they were sending snaps to their friends.

This filter was available for one week during the construction phase. This allowed Henry Brothers to reach a much wider variety of people regarding publishing the building of the new Aldercar community school.

After the first day of use, 172 people have used the Snapchat filter within the app. Sending photos to over 3728 people with the filter applied.
