Berkeley Homes arranged a trade day for Mid-Kent college students in order for them to meet key trade contractors, learn more about construction sites and take part in a series of practical competitions that offer them a snapshot of what it is like to work on a construction site and develop their trade skills.

There were many different site activities throughout the day including:

  • A site induction carried out with a member of the site team
  • A tool box talk from Berkeley Homes Directors about Berkeley’s values & brand and sustainability
  • A visit to the sales office and viewing of plot 67
  • A briefing by trade supervisors and subsequent on-site competitions (electrical and plumbing)
  • A prize-giving for competition winners together with student feedback received

Following the successful trade day, Berkeley have built a stronger partnership with Mid-Kent college, that has resulted in the following:

  • Materials being donated to the various construction departments
  • Teachers being offered the opportunity to come to site and work alongside our foreman so they can update themselves on the new methods and techniques we use
  • Berkeley Homes were invited to the college to give an inspirational talk to new students
  • The students that took part in the day can contact the foreman they completed the competition with for future job opportunities
