3G Pitch Shock Pad Upcycling

Initially this contractor was required to uplift the existing 3G pitch and shock pad and this material was due to be transported to landfill. Because this had to be taken to a certain landfill site they enquired about alternative means of disposal/reuse, receiving very little feedback on alternatives.

They worked with the supply chain and approached clients with a proposal. They got involved with SEPA, and proposed rather than transfer to landfill, this material should be shredded on site and reused as an alternative upfill material (shredded crumb) which was used in agreement with SEPA to areas that were non load bearing ie soft play and landscape.

There was a substantial cost reduction to the contractor and client through doing this as well as saving time, additionally this was better for the environment through a reduction in CO2. SEPA confirmed the materials as contaminant free and the Landscape Architect and Client/Design Team are now considering this form of reuse on future projects/sites.
